The return of the Club Dinner was a great success

On Friday 8th April, after two years absence due to the pandemic, the Club Dinner returned and to the Club itself.

A desire to keep the format simple and numbers to a comfortable level worked well and resulted in a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Our Catering Secretary Yvette and her team provided a hearty feast of meatballs and pasta with a dessert and full cheeseboard which was served to a good cross representation of the Club.

The past Chairman Peter Fairweather conducted proceedings and the current Chairman Shay Ryan opened the evening by welcoming all members and guests. Shay outlined the positive developments of recent months as well as those to come.

Shay also presented engraved tankards to Jack Plumb and Tom Bolt who after many years of cricket from the colts level to first team are now departing to pastures new. We wish them well and they are both Enfield CC through and through and always welcome back.

Dickie Baldwin delivered a witty recollection of sporting moments with a few members featuring in his witty anecdotes.

Cliff Tissier delivered a great one liner when Steve Plumb went to collect a set of golf balls as a raffle prize by remarking that Steve was such a bad golfer that he lost three balls just going back to his chair!

The atmosphere and camaraderie was just what we hoped it would be and members old and new shared many a good joke and tale. Thanks to those who helped run the raffle and collect dinner money and to our principal sponsor Graham Chase who put a £200 drinks tab behind the bar at the end.

Thank you all

Peter Fairweather
