Firstly, apologies for missing the round-up of Round 13 - it wasn't a high point of the season, despite our 3s winning, so you didn't miss much!
This week, our 1s hosted Wembley looking to get back to winning ways and build some momentum into the final weeks of the season. Wembley won the toss and chose to bat and started steadily, if unspectacularly. Despite losing an early wicket, they were able to put together a few small partnerships and get themselves 110-2. Jonah Healey was the pick of the early bowlers, as he claimed both wickets and kept things tight. There followed two quick wickets, before Nick Owen (85*) steadied the ship and saw Wembley through to the end of their innings. Wembley ended on 233-6.
In reply, we lost two early wickets but Tasin (45) and Davis (88*) put on 95 for the third wicket and gave us the confidence to push on. With two more wickets falling fairly close together, Tony (45) joined Davis at the crease and the two of them took us to within 22 of victory. Not long after, we were celebrating - victorious by 5 wickets.
Our 2s headed over to West Harrow, who were top of the league. We won the toss and chose to bat first (after they'd thankfully put the stumps in the unused wicket). Things started nicely as Chris Beale and Jack Ryan put on an opening stand of just shy of 50. But, it was Adeel Saeed (48) and Tom Dallmeyer (73) who really put us in a good position. Their partnership, and individual work, pushed us towards 200 and meant that our lower order could bat with a little more freedom in trying to push the run rate up in the later overs. We finished on 215-9.
Things started well for us with the ball as we got an early wicket, but then our opponents rallied and reached 105-2 at drinks. However, in the 14.1 overs after drinks, West Harrow lost 8 wickets for 46 runs as James' Ryan (4-45) and Quinlan (3-22) bowled in tandem to keep the pressure high. In a surprising turn of events for an Enfield side, not only did we hold our catches, we also got two runouts!
Our 3s also won the toss and batted and things looked to be off to a good start as Bilal (32) and Noor (30) put on 68 for the 1st wicket. Four quick wickets, though, took us to 88-4 and things looked less rosy. Adnan (46*) and Jawad (29) then put on 64 for the fifth wicket to steady things. Unfortunately, our final five batsmen could only manage 12 runs between them as we were all out for 180.
With the ball, we were unable to get an early breakthrough as Brondesbury put together a century opening stand. While the runs were there, Brondesbury were not scoring very quickly, which meant there was still some pressure on them to chase the win. We were able to get some wickets and begin to build some more pressure as Mohsin took 4-24. But, ultimately, we didn't have enough runs on the board, and Brondesbury came away with the winning draw.
Our 4s had a much more straightforward day at the office. Bowling first, they dismissed Southgate Adelaide for just 52. Wickets were shared about with Ayaan taking two, and Fawaz, Joe, Chenal, Sadam & Dimuthu getting one apiece.
With the bat, we made light work of the run chase, coming home winners by 7 wickets. Tim Cunningham carrying his bat through the chase.
Our thanks go to Pat Hicks for her generous sponsorship last week. We really appreciate the support.
