Chairman Slog - Long Live the Chairman

James Quinlan3 Feb 2022 - 10:36

A welcome from our new Chairman, Shay Ryan

Hi all,

A big thank you to everyone for all your kind words and messages of support to myself and, also, to all the volunteers and officers of the club. Your sterling efforts in supporting the running and welfare of the club are very much appreciated.

Unbelievably, the Cricket and Tennis seasons are fast approaching! Let’s hope things are gradually returning to normality and we can all enjoy a successful season for all our sections. I believe the football section are generally having a positive season on all fronts.

There has been some positive news on the Cricket front. We have appointed a new full-time Groundsman, Ayden. A really nice chap recruited from Tottenham Hotspurs' ground staff. Tottenham's loss is our gain I would say! If you are around the club at any time, pop in and say hello; make him feel part of the Enfield family.

The league fixtures have been published and, thanks mainly to the excellent efforts of Bruce Conway, we have arranged some attractive Sunday fixtures against mainly local opposition. Hopefully, this will reinvigorate our approach to Sunday cricket which is so important to develop our younger players (and for our older players to find some form). We have also reintroduced a cricket week for July - with fixtures to be confirmed - and a potential tour to Enfield CC (Lancashire) is under discussion. Full details will be announced when confirmed.

The captains and vice-captains have been elected. Please give the guys your 100% support and make their lives easier by advising them of your availability in a timely manner, attending team meetings, net sessions etc.

The club also hope to have signed an overseas player - a young Australian fast bowler - for next season. Many thanks to James Quinlan for all his work with this initiative and the Committee for supporting the cricket section. With this, and the commitment from the club to increase our coaching team, we can look forward to next season with a lot of positivity.

The younger colts nets have commenced at Enfield Grammar School and the senior nets at Highlands schools. Dates and times are published on the website so feel free to bring along any potential recruits.

The cricket teas this season will be being supplied by Yvette in a more traditional buffet style. If you have any suggestions or requests, please let me know so we can pass them on to Yvette.

A new revamped band night is being launched at the club, with the usual mix of excellent musicians. For those that haven’t been to one, it’s a great opportunity to hear some fantastic live music performed by some top musicians. Details can be found on the website.

There will be various social events held at the club, over the year, which are always good fun. I hope everyone will make every effort to support and attend these events. They are very important, and your support of them is crucial to maintain the club's ongoing commitment to improving the infrastructure, playing facilities and coaching elements at Enfield CC.

Finally, in the short time I have been involved in the day-to-day activities of the running of the club, I have come to appreciate how much time and effort people (all unpaid volunteers) put in to making our club such a great place for everyone to spend time - playing or socialising. We always need more volunteers to help out, e.g. helping to run a colts team which is so important for the future of the club. Please step up.

If anyone wants to speak to me personally about any particular issues feel free to drop me a line.

Catch up soon,

Shay Ryan
Chairman
Enfield CC
