Enfield's 3rd XI slipped to another defeat despite the valiant efforts of Mackett and Buckley.
Having lost the toss and been asked to bat, Enfield got off to a horrible start as the top order struggled to get to grips with the slow surface. Soon Mackett strode to the crease with the score 16 for 4. Mackett and Zeeshan steadied the ship before the slow pitch did for Zeeshan. Mackett continued to fight back but support didn't come easily. Ollie White dug deep to support his captain with a dogged 2 from 24 in a 46-run partnership. With the dying embers of the innings, Mackett opened his shoulders to get the score up to a competitive 138, Mackett himself the last wicket to fall for 86.
In defence of their 138 Enfield got off to the best start with James Ryan and Sean Buckley ripping through the top order, with Buckley taking 3 wickets from just 4 overs. Hornsey keeper Litler and all-rounder Barry produced the partnership of the day edging towards the winning total. Barry was removed just before the drinks break and Litler removed just after, left the game in the balance with Hornsey needing just 23 with only 3 wickets left. Enfield had some close chances but Hornsey's tail wagged ably and despite a late wicket for Buckley, Hornsey reached their total with 2 wickets and plenty of overs to spare.
Enfield returns to the road next week with an away trip to Harrow town.
